digestive problems? You don't have to suffer

Do you experience bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhoea or other uncomfortable digestive symptoms?

You probably won't be surprised to hear the digestive system is one of the hardest working systems in your body and 'performance' issues can occur. These may indicate you have an unhappy gut.

Some of the more common digestive problems I see:

  • Abdominal bloating
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Malodorous gas / wind / flatulence
  • Abdominal pain
  • Reflux / heartburn

While some of these symptoms are mild and temporary, others may be potentially serious and needing investigation.

These symptoms are telling you that your gut is not happy. Occasional symptoms are rarely a problem, however long term chronic digestive symptoms are distressing and can even be a warning of a serious health problem.

Investigations and a comprehensive assessment are important to sort out physical as well as emotional causes of an unhappy gut.

Integrative doctors may use a suite of specialised testing tools to investigate the drivers behind your digestive symptoms.

There are ways to help you feel better. Let's talk about digestive problems.

The importance of good digestive health

Did you know that 80% of your immune system is located in your gut?

By interacting with your immune system, your gut bacteria influences your ability to resist infection, reduce inflammation and maintain a healthy mood.

The digestive system is also where critical vitamins, nutrients and minerals are absorbed. Factors such as stress, lack of sleep, antibiotics and illness can impact digestive performance, causing uncomfortable symptoms.

The gut-brain connection

Your gut and brain are connected by powerful nerves and hormones. A troubled intestine can send signals to the brain, just as a troubled brain can send signals to the gut. That's why anxiety, stress and depression can create intestinal distress. That doesn't mean all gut problems are psychological though.

Physical causes of digestive symptoms may need to be checked

You may need to have tests to investigate possible conditions such as stomach ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, fructose or lactose intolerance or small intestine bacterial overgrowth. These tests include:

  • Gastroscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Breath tests
  • Microbiome stool samples

Put your gut health first

Addressing digestive issues can help improve your digestive health and overall energy and wellbeing.

If you experience any of the digestive problems I've described, you don't have to suffer. Make the decision to put your gut health first.
